TCH 14 – SUPPORT FOR THE FOYER OF SARH
Project Location
The project is carried out in the district of Kassai, in the town of Sarh, southern Chad, in the Diocese of Sarh, at the border with Central African Republic. The social and economic situation of this center is very poor, as the population is made up of simple peasants and women and girls represent the most vulnerable category.
Since 2009 a foyer for girls has begun to function in the community of the Comboni Sisters, the aim is to allow them to improve their school level through remedial courses, as well as to continue studies in a private high school where education is more accurate. There are girls who arrive at the foyer with a very low educational level and with large knowledge gaps that are being filled with recovery classes. The foyer currently welcomes 17 girls aged 16 to 25 plus four external ones.
Project description
The girls hosted in our foyer come from poor families who cannot afford to pay for their daughters' studies, but who would like to see them with their high school diploma and to follow with the degree. As a well-known proverb says "Educating a girl means educating an entire nation", for this reason, through this project, we would like to contribute to their training so that these girls can be the women of tomorrow, able to assume their responsibilities not only at the family level, but also at the social level.
The girls stay in the foyer for a period of 10 months during which, in addition to school, they have the opportunity to attend remedial courses especially in French, English, mathematics, philosophy, physics and chemistry. We are also committed to offering them alternative activities for their integral formation.
Objectives
- Give girls who come from various villages the opportunity to study and have remedial courses, for a better success in their studies
- Encourage also a type of practical formation that prepares them for their role as women in the family and in society
