ZAM 17 - FROM THE FARM TO THE NEIGHBORHOODS
Project Location
This project will be carried out in the Makeni area of Lusaka, where the Comboni Missionary Sisters have a community surrounded by neighborhoods where they carry out their pastoral activities.
Project description
The project aims to support the various pastoral activities of the Comboni Missionary Sisters in the Makeni area, addressing the challenge of relying on external donations to carry them out. These pastoral activities are essential to promoting community well-being, spiritual growth, and social cohesion, but they still depend, as mentioned above, on foreign donations. Therefore, the Comboni Sisters' proposal is to launch a quail farming business with the aim of ensuring the long-term sustainability of their pastoral activities.
Quail farming is in line with the community's capabilities and expertise because they are easy to raise, reproduce very quickly, and there is strong market demand for both eggs and meat. To carry out this project, we have defined a series of necessary activities:
- Set up suitable and customized agricultural facilities and equipment for quail farming in the local environment
- Use environmentally friendly methods, such as organic feed production and waste recycling, to minimize environmental impact
- Identify and establish market connections for the local sale of quail eggs and meat
- Periodically evaluate project progress to ensure its sustainability.
Objectives
- Establish a sustainable quail farm that generates income and promotes the environmental sustainability of pastoral activities.
- Ensure the long-term self-sufficiency of pastoral activities.
- Provide an organic and nutritious alternative to the population of the Makeni area.
Beneficiaries
Direct: the sisters, the 25 pastoral workers.
Indirect: the population of the neighborhoods in the Makeni area.
