ZAM 08 - LET'S OPEN A DOOR: TRAINING AND MICROCREDIT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Project Location
The project is located in the Mongu area, in northwest Zambia. It's a rural, sandy area. When the rainy season permits, rice, corn, and vegetables are grown. The Zambezi River provides fishing opportunities.
However, the area is plagued by malaria, which severely hinders the activities of the population, who fall ill up to three times a year.
Project description
The "Let's Open a Door" project aims to provide an alternative to farming in fields increasingly at risk due to the scarcity of rainfall caused by climate change.
After careful consideration, we decided it would be beneficial to teach young people and single women alternative activities that would allow them to earn a small income, especially during poor harvests.
Specifically, we were considering courses in cutting and sewing, basket weaving, and the creation of small local artisanal products. At the end of the course, they will be provided with the necessary skills to start small businesses and shops selling basic goods and items needed for daily life.
Objectives
- Train 20 young people and single women to learn a trade that can offer them an alternative to agriculture.
- Support twenty rural families by offering them a more secure economic alternative and ensuring a more dignified life.
Beneficiaries
Direct: 20 young adults, single mothers, and widows
Indirect: families and society
