UG 08 - LET'S WALK TOGETHER

Project Location

The project is carried out in Northern Uganda, specifically in Gulu and its surroundings. The population living here has experienced decades of “persecution” and war, interrupted for a short time, in the early 1980s. Then the HIV/AIDS pandemic threw the population into a situation of incredible vulnerability characterized by high mortality and consequently by many orphaned children. This was joined in the following years by the guerrilla warfare led by Joseph Kony. This has led to unprecedented situations of violence, abuse, torture, mass destruction and kidnappings of children aimed at becoming soldiers (the boys) and sexual slaves (the girls). The recent years of lockdown due to Covid have exacerbated an already complex and complicated social situation. With schools closed for almost two years and small economic activities at a standstill, the financial conditions of families have worsened. Every day I listen and welcome with empathy the difficulties in which many people - mostly single women, widows or abandoned by the father of their children - find themselves facing daily problems.

Project description

This project was born to deal with the continuous and numerous cases that require an almost immediate response: milk for a malnourished or disabled child, access to medical care, coverage of the back rent so as not to have to sleep with the children on the street, food to feed one's family during those days in which one has not found work, straw to be able to redo the roof of the hut where they live to protect themselves from the continuous rains caused by climate change, etc.

Obiettivi

  • Provide immediate responses to urgent cases in terms of material goods or financial support
  • Provide some peace of mind to families
