TG 16 - ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP

Project Location

In today's globalized world, proficiency in English has become an essential skill for navigating new situations and seizing international opportunities. Effective communication in English is essential for success in the 21st century world. However, in Togo, students learning English as a second language often struggle to apply their language skills in real-life situations outside of the classroom. Togo maintains important trade ties with its English-speaking neighbors Ghana and Nigeria. In addition, a large English-speaking expatriate community, including Americans, interacts daily with Togolese in key sectors such as education, banking, trade, tourism, and government.

Recognizing this reality, the Togolese government and the general public are increasingly placing importance on proficiency in English and American studies. Therefore, speaking English has become an important asset for obtaining a university degree or accessing employment. The Comboni Missionary Sisters initiated this project with the aim of strengthening young people's skills in communication and leadership in English, in order to provide them with better opportunities for socio-professional integration.

Project description

This project consists of 24 carefully designed lessons, spread over a period of 9 months, aimed at covering the essential aspects of English communication, personal development and leadership. The lessons are taught by qualified teachers, determined to support young people throughout their journey to empowerment. The program is structured into three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each level extends over a period of three months, with two weekly sessions of 2 hours each. An initial assessment test will classify each student at the appropriate level. At the end of each level, participants will be awarded a certificate.

To implement this English and leadership program, we will start by identifying vulnerable young people, who are the target beneficiaries of this project. We will provide them with the necessary resources to follow the courses, prepare the lessons and provide them with a learning environment conducive to their success. The lessons will cover grammar, vocabulary, listening comprehension, as well as written and spoken communication.

The leadership component of the program aims to develop the empowerment and leadership skills of young people. Participants will learn leadership techniques and management skills that will help them thrive in both their personal and professional lives. At the end of the program, each participant will receive a certificate that certifies their participation and progress.

  • Offer young people an appropriate, calm and safe environment to successfully learn the English language
