TCH 13 – DERESSIA SCHOOL
Project Location
The project is taking place in Deressia, in the Diocese of Lai, 500 km from the capital, Ndjamena. Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world. Our presence in Deressia is much needed because it supports the education of boys and girls who live in a closed-off area, difficult to reach due to the state of its access roads.
The Deressia elementary school was built in 2002 and currently serves approximately 210 students.
Project description
Through this project, we would like to continue supporting the proper functioning of the school by supporting the payment of teachers. Furthermore, we have observed that younger children sometimes come to school hungry, and we are aware that if a child is not well-nourished, they cannot perform well in school because their brains are unable to concentrate. Therefore, to ensure they have at least one regular, nutritious meal a day, we plan to purchase food for breakfast. To help those who are falling behind, we will organize lessons with dedicated courses.
Finally, since the school dates back to 2002, some maintenance work is needed: in particular, the cleaning of the five septic tanks in the bathrooms is urgently needed for reasons of order and hygiene; and the painting of the eight classrooms and three teachers' offices.
A sister works full-time at the school, ensuring transparency in the school's management and supporting the teachers' pedagogical work. Families also play an active role in the educational process, through contributions in kind or in cash, according to their means.
