TCH 02 – A SAFER SCHOOL
Project Location
The project is taking place in Deressia, a town in Chad, in the Diocese of Lai, 500 km from N'Djamena. Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world. The presence of the Comboni Sisters in Deressia, in the Diocese of Lai, is important because it supports the education of boys and girls who live in a place that is difficult to access, especially during the rainy season, due to poor roads. Most families make a living working the rice fields.
Since 2002, the Comboni Sisters have been working in the elementary school to provide quality education to the children, who are the future of this country. The primary goal is to help them and prepare them for their future. The school currently has approximately 210 students.
Project description
The school building is generally in good condition, but the safety netting surrounding the building, which has deteriorated over time, needs work. There are now holes large enough to allow a goat to crawl through; one day, an ox even entered the school. This clearly does not guarantee the safety of the children present.
For this reason, we would like to replace the safety netting with a 278-meter-long, 1.5-meter-high perimeter wall.
The sister in charge will actively monitor the work, accompanied by a group of parents who have made themselves available for this service.
Objectives
- Provide safety for children at school
- Protect our school from animals and prevent outsiders from interrupting children during lessons
- Promote a space conducive to learning
Beneficiaries
Direct: 210 school children
Indirect: families
