SSD 25 – SUPPORT FOR RENK'S KINDERGARTENS
Project Location
The project is being implemented Renk County, Upper Nile State in South Sudan. Renk is located towards the border of South Sudan and Sudan. The project is realized within the context of a mixed realities of returnees (South Sudanese fleeing the war in Sudan North), refugees and the local people. When war broke out in Khartoum- Sudan, many people lost their lives, houses, employment and many were forced to evacuate and seek refuge in South Sudan.
It is in this context that we find ourselves in need of financial support to help sustain basic formal education. We help in the running of three kindergartens located in different areas in Renk town. Most of the parents are not able to pay the little school fees needed to cater for the daily running of the school such as payment of teachers and maintenance of the structures.
Project description
The project is about promoting basic formal basic education in three kindergartens within Renk town. The beneficiaries are the children between the age of 5 years and 8 years from returnees, refugees and the local community. It is worth supporting this project because the sisters are committed to creating a strong foundation in education for a better future of this nation. The children follow a two year program with 50 children in year one and 50 children in year two in each of the Kindergartens. We make a difference by creating a conducive teaching and learning environment.
The results are quantifiable by the end of the year since the children will able to express what they have learnt. As we hope for permanent settlement of the returnees, we foresee the possibility of sustaining the kindergartens through school fees and local contributions. Currently, local participation is very minimal due to the ongoing situation.
