RCA 08 - SCHOOLING OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN BIMBO
Project Location
In recent years Bimbo, the neighborhood in which the Comboni sisters live, has seen the number of its inhabitants increase exponentially. The reasons are many, first of all Bimbo is one of the safest neighborhoods in Bangui, therefore it is preferred to other neighborhoods when it comes to looking for a home. Secondly, this quarter was chosen by the many families who left the suburbs to move to the capital city.
Unfortunately, the economic situation of the country continues to be critical: work is scarce and living conditions are precarious. The main victims of this general situation of poverty are children and youth, who are often deprived of the opportunity to regularly attend school at all grades.
Project description
This project aims to support and encourage the children and young people of the Bimbo neighborhood to study and get educated. At various times of the year they turn to us for help: sometimes it is about paying part of an installment of the school fees, other times it comes to sponsor the entire sum. In the Central African Republic, the illness of a family member or a low yielding farming season may deprive children and youth who belong to these families of the opportunity to return to school.
The project also includes helping 8 university girls, to enable them to obtain a higher level education, which opens up possibilities for the future.
Objectives
- To make sure that children whose families are unable to pay school fees have access to education
- Supporting young women on their university journey
Beneficiaries
Direct: 20 children/youth and 8 university students
Indirect: their families
