MOZ 26 MINHA CASA - MINHA VITA: A HOME FOR THE GIRLS OF LAR ELDA
Project Location
The Lar Elda home was opened by the Comboni Missionary Sisters in 2003 on the outskirts of Nampula, in the Muahivire Expanção neighborhood, to meet the enormous challenge of helping girls and young women, especially orphans, living on the streets. Subsequently, at the request of social services, the home began to welcome girls who, for various reasons including poverty, exploitation, and abuse, could not remain with their families.
Beginning in October 2017, when the terrorist attacks began in the province of Cabo Delgado, the home also welcomed girls from that region who, along with their families, fled for safety.
Project description
Once they reach 18-20 years of age, the girls who have completed their schooling and are about to begin their journey toward independence, leaving the center, need a safe place to live. Therefore, to continue supporting them, we need to purchase a small house for them to move into.
Once they become independent, the girls do not lose their connection with their sisters and the center; they continue to be supported, allowing them to grow and take charge of their own lives.
In the city of Nampula, small prefabricated houses can be found for 70,000 meticais (about 1,000 euros).
Objective
- To enable girls to become independent and continue to build their own lives with confidence and security.
