MOZ 25 - CHURCH ON MISSION
Project Location
The project is carried out in various parishes where the Comboni Missionary Sisters are present. In Nampula in two parishes, in Namina which is about 80 kilometers from Nampula, in Maputo in two parishes and in Balama (Cabo Delgado). The Comboni Missionary Sisters have been present in Mozambique since 12 September 1954, currently with 6 communities in Mozambique and 1 in South Africa (outside Pretoria).
Our presence of evangelization and of sharing our life with the people we live with, includes moments of missionary animation of the local Church in the different Christian communities and in particular with the young people with those we are in direct contact with.

Project description
Our missionary animation activities are mainly with groups or parishes where we can transmit the liveliness of the mission and the Comboni charism. Special attention is paid to raising awareness about justice issues, peace and care for creation.
We follow a group of lay Combonianos in 3 cities which are Nampula, Namina and Nacala, who are our direct collaborators in carrying out our mission of “saving Africa with Africa” through the animation in the Mass during the missionary month, visits to the most families poor people, sick in hospitals and prisons, help our communities both with prayer and with small manual work.
Many young people express the desire to know more about our life, our style of presence in the suburbs and with the poorest, and the desires that we face to make the people protagonists of their own future. In a context of youth easily attracted by an easy life and great compromises, we believe it is appropriate to offer paths of human, spiritual and discernment training in one's life. We offer different settings to the young people, including meetings of 3-4 days to have space and time in which they can think about their future and be supported in their desire to give meaning to their life, including with the option of a missionary religious life.
Objectives
- Make the Comboni Charism known to lay people and collaborators
- Enabling Comboni lay people to offer their contribution to Evangelization
- Offering young people the opportunity to discern their own lives and accompanying them on the Comboni journey
Local contribution
The families of the young people participate by supporting the food with local products. The groups of lay people contribute to the expenses through small values or goods to offer during visits to the sick, the elderly, and prisoners. In some parishes where animation meetings are held, lunch is offered and a small offering often in products.
