KE 24 - SUPPORT FOR THE KARIOBANGI DISPENSARY
Project Location
This project is being implemented at the Kariobangi Catholic Dispensary, located in Kariobangi, one of Nairobi’s informal settlements. The area faces extreme poverty and limited access to essential public services, particularly healthcare. Within this context, the dispensary plays a critical role in providing medical care to a community that would otherwise have few options for basic health services.
The dispensary offers a variety of services, such as outpatient, pharmacy, laboratory, child welfare clinic, antenatal clinic, nutrition services, x-ray, ultrasound, eye clinic, hypertension and diabetes clinic, natural family planning, and counselling. The dispensary provides free treatment to those identified as most in need, recognizing that many patients arrive without any means to pay. This approach underscores the dispensary’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations and reducing healthcare inequities.
Project description
Known for its longstanding service to disadvantaged communities, the dispensary has recently expanded its structure to include childhood vaccination programs, further enhancing its impact on public health in the area. To continue improving accessibility, especially for children and adults with mobility challenges, we plan to install an elevator for this building. This addition will ensure access to care for all, strengthening the dispensary’s mission of inclusive healthcare for all.
Objectives
- Improve the service offered by the Kariobangi dispensary
- Ensure access to quality care for all patients
