PE 5 - ONE SOL FOR PROTEIN

Project Location
This project takes place in Pamplona Alta, Nueva Rinconada, south of Lima. In this suburb currently there are 160 human settlements, the last created in inaccessible places, without water or sewage and without viable roads.Families living in this place are, in general, young families with small children, who live by a daily and precarious work with which they cannot sustain themselves. The pandemic has impoverished these families even more, and at this moment, with the political instability that Peru is experiencing due to the new government, prices have risen so much that people eat poor and deficient food. Many families suffer from hunger, moreover there are several cases of tuberculosis and dengue fever and therefore they need medicines and foods rich in proteins.
To cope with this chronic food shortage were the "ollas comunes" (a kind of informal canteens) where various women cook for 30-40 families helped by the parish that coordinates the aid of Caritas and other organizations. At the most difficult moment of the pandemic, the "ollas comunes" reached 106. To date about 70 ollas comunes are active and feed about 6,000 people.

Project description
Despite the reduction in canteens, the shortage of protein-rich foods is still present, and many children and adults suffer from anemia; This is why our effort is now focused on enriching the foods cooked in the pans with the proteins necessary for the health of these families to be strong and to avoid the risk of contracting other diseases.
For this reason, the project "A sol, a protein" was launched, which provides for the donation of a sol per day (Peruvian currency equal to 25 cents of Euro) the purchase of animal proteins to enrich the dishes of these canteens and give the population an adequate and healthy diet. Our project also aims to overcome the "borders" of the New Rinconada and reach other places in the country, where there is also this need.
Objectives
- Ensuring a rich and healthy diet for the population of the suburbs of Lima
- Decrease the incidence of diseases related to a low protein diet
