SSD 29 - HELPING THE CHILDREN OF COUNTY HOSPITAL
Project Location
The project takes place at the Cueibet County Hospital, Lakes State, South Sudan. In an environment characterised by insecurity, bad roads and extreme poverty.
Project description
For four years now, as Comboni Sisters, we have been involved in running the hospital in Cueibet County, a hospital that receives government aid, in collaboration with the CUAMM. We meet many patients and relatives of patients near and far on a daily basis. Some of them are unable to afford a meal for a day as they travel long distances, mostly on foot, to access the facility.
Another challenge is insecurity, mainly caused by clan clashes, revenge killings and cattle raids. Most in-patients cannot afford a visitor for the entire period of their stay, which makes it even more difficult as the hospital does not provide meals for patients. In most cases almost all year round, the hospital runs out of essential medicines for patients, mainly due to delays in supplies caused by poor road conditions.
Objectives
- To improve the quality of life of young patients identified in hospital
- To guarantee a quality health service
Beneficiaries
Direct: 100 children under 5 who are patients of the hospital
Indirect: their families and the hospital
Referring Sister for the project: Sr. Joan Namuli
